My Addiction explores the power of language, creativity, and collective action to achieve personal and societal change. “Listen” proposes that people can, employing language, create their own worlds and affect the world around them, and therefore that language may be used both to reinforce and combat power. With the song “My Addiction,” I first posit truth as the greatest threat to power, and end offering that awareness must beget action. Such action may take many forms, and as “Street Writer” suggests, action may take the form of creating art from one’s surroundings. Ultimately, “Victory” can only be won through a collective movement based in the creative. If addiction refers to a compulsive act that is initially pleasurable but eventually overcomes one’s being, then My Addiction – as an EP – refers to an addiction to the world of thoughts, which eludes to something sinister and to endless possibilities.
